Aquaculture is an important industry in County Mayo. Records show that production in the County for 2018 was 3,870 tonnes with a value of €42.8m. There are in excess of 50 licences over 30 production sites. Latest figures for Irish aquaculture productions show that County Mayo is fourth in terms of value of overall landings and fifth on a table relating to employment. The industry in Mayo employs 171 people on a full-time and part-time basis. Clew Bay accounts for a large proportion of site followed by Achill, Erris and Killala bay respectively.
