€88,850 allocated to Mayo Sport in COVID19 Support Funding
Date: 02-11-2020
Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media, Catherine Martin TD and Minister of State for Sport and Gaeltacht Affairs, Jack Chambers TD, recently announced an unprecedented €85 million funding package for the Irish sport sector, which has been significantly impacted by the various Covid-19 restrictions imposed since March 2020.
Included in the package is an allocation of €75,450 through Mayo Sports Partnership for 60 Mayo sports clubs and a further €13,400 for Sports Partnership Renewal Projects. A number of other clubs applied through their governing body of sport for support and will be allocated funding from that source.
Mayo Sports Partnership Chairman Cllr Michael Loftus welcomed the government support for clubs stating that the sector has been hugely impacted by the pandemic like other sectors
“ We were delighted to facilitate the allocation of funding to clubs under this small grant scheme. While amounts such as €1500 is not big money it means a lot to local volunteers in small communities across Mayo that this support is made. It’s a recognition of all the fantastic work that our sports community do in raising the spirits and mental health of all” Loftus stated.
Clubs will be contacted by the Partnership about the finer details in drawing down the allocations with the end of November a cut off point for this scheme.
Sports Partnership Head Charlie Lambert added
“ We recently made a call out to the sports sector in Mayo for applications for our annual small grant scheme. We hope to also be in a position to announce recipients of this scheme also before the end of November. 2020 has been a massively challenging year for everyone.”
