Cathaoirleach of Ballina Municipal District attends 1798 commemoration in Ballinamuck

The Cathaoirleach of Ballina Municipal District, Cllr Seamus Weir with a delegation from Mayo attended a special occasion of culture, entertainment, history, and reflection on the 225th anniversary of the 1798 Battle of Ballinamuck in the North Co Longford historical village last Friday, September 8th.

The battle of Ballinamuck was the last engagement of the 1798 Rebellion. Cllr Weir thanked the organising Committee for inviting the delegation from Mayo to attend following the extraordinarily successful event in Ballina last month.

The event was part of the commemoration of the year 2023 to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the landing of General Humberts French troops at Kilcummin on 22nd August 1798.
