Armchair Azure Tours In Mayo
Date: 12-03-2021
Mayo County Council Arts Service, in collaboration with Community Action on Dementia Mayo and local arts venues, is delighted to announce Armchair Azure, a new series of free Dementia Inclusive virtual visual art tours.
For those living with dementia, the virtual visual art tours are an accessible way of engaging with art online. Tours are one-hour long and are guided by a trained dementia-inclusive facilitator who will guide participants through a selection of visual artworks while actively encouraging conversation and responses to each work.
Tours are for those living with Dementia in Mayo, but people are welcome and encouraged to share and experience the tour with a family member, a friend or a carer.
This opportunity has come about following extensive training undertaken by the participating venues in 2019, kindly supported by Creative Ireland Mayo. The training was delivered by the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), who are one of the lead partners of the Azure programme.
These are virtual tours that take place in the comfort of your own home on Zoom. Zoom is a video software that allows you to meet participants virtually. To join you will need internet access and a laptop or tablet with a camera. If you are unfamiliar with using Zoom you can contact Mayo Arts Service for help.
If you or someone you know is living with Dementia and you would like to know more about the virtual visual art tours or would like to book onto a tour, simply contact Katriona Gillespie at Mayo County Council Arts Service at mayoarts@mayococo.ie or phone 094 9064666. We will be happy to answer your questions.
The Arts & Aging programme is a shared strategic initiative of Mayo County Council and the Arts Council. This KEEP WELL campaign is brought to you with thanks to Healthy Ireland, an initiative of the Government of Ireland, with funding from the Healthy Ireland Fund and the Sláintecare fund delivered by Pobal.
