Climate Action Louisburgh Locality continues their winning streak

Date: 17-04-2023

Following their win of Green Community Group of the Year at this year’s Cathaoirleach Awards, Climate Action Louisburg Locality (CALL), in partnership with Mayo County Council are delighted to announce that they have been chosen as 1 of 24 local partners by the EU SHARED GREEN DEAL.

The project which will take place in the Louisburg locality, which includes Clare Island and Inishturk Island, is part of the Efficient Renovations stream and will run for one year. The project has secured €22,000 in funding and aims to develop local knowledge networks to share information and skills between citizens and professionals. While much research and policy effort focus on providing information about renovations, this is often not enough to stimulate new renovations and may not meet stakeholders’ needs.  By engaging residents or users prior to renovations, respecting their skills and wishes, while enhancing their capacities to become active energy citizens, EU Shared Green Deal will develop and share knowledge and know-how for the most important stakeholders in all renovations: the residents or users of the buildings.

“With more than 950 organisations confirming their interest in becoming EU Shared Green Deal partners Mayo County Council in partnership with Climate Action Louisburgh Locality are delighted to be 1 of only 24 selected projects. Retrofitting our homes not only saves money and energy, but also improves the quality of life for those living in the home. This project will allow us to learn from experts and other communities across Europe on how our communities can better implement efficient energy renovations.”

Laura Dixon – A/Climate Action Coordinator, Mayo County Council

All the EU Shared Green Deal partners represent local organisations or local governments from all over Europe and have the opportunity to contribute to the local implementation of the Green Deal priorities, create and strengthen relationships with their community and local institutions while benefiting from the learning outcomes that can be adopted as part of their own processes. This is made possible with funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme.

Kinga Kovacs, Coordinator at EU Energy Cities and responsible for the recruitment process, says:

"Each of the 24 local partners brings a unique local approach to making Europe more sustainable and we are excited to be working closer with them. These are organisations showcasing a strong commitment to the principles of the European Green Deal and in the coming years, we will collaborate with them to share the knowledge and experiences gained through our joint work on Shared Green Deal."
