Call for Expression of Interest to provide a submission to Mayo Outdoor Recreation Plan 2025-29

Date: 29-11-2024

Mayo County Council, in partnership with Mayo Sports Partnership, is developing a County Outdoor Recreation Plan 2025-2029 to maximise the potential of Mayo’s land, air and water-based recreation provision in line with Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors, the National Outdoor Recreation Strategy. As outlined in the National Strategy, outdoor recreation is defined as activities that take place in the natural environment, such as walking, canoeing, mountain biking, orienteering and wild swimming. The county plan will take into account the current outdoor recreation amenities in the county and will provide a number of actions for the further development and management of outdoor recreation in Mayo.

As part of the public consultation process for the plan, Mayo Sports Partnership/Mayo County Council is seeking expressions of interest to provide a submission to the plan. Submissions could include suggestions for the development of new trails, upgrades to existing facilities, improvements to signage, etc. Please provide any submissions you would like to be considered for the plan to the Outdoor Recreation Officer for Mayo, Kieran Reilly on kreilly@mayococo.ie  by Thursday 5th December 2024.

Mayo Sports Partnership and Mayo County Council will also hold an open public consultation event to discuss opportunities and priorities for the County Outdoor Recreation Plan. This open session will provide an opportunity to discuss the development of the plan in person and will take place on Thursday 5th December 2024 from 6pm to 7pm in Mayo House, Moneen, Castlebar, F23 N504. Information on the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) funded by the Department of Rural & Community Development will also be provided at this event.
