Lios Na Circe Social Housing Development In Castlebar Officially Opened By Minister Of State Alan Dillon

Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD today officially opened Phase 2 of the Lios Na Circe Social Housing Development in Castlebar.

The 22-unit development was designed and managed by the Architects Section of Mayo County Council and will provide much needed housing for the community.

The development consists of 6 no. 2-bed semi-detached bungalows; 6 no. 2-bed semi-detached two-storey units; 7 no. 3-bed semi-detached two-storey units; 2 no. 4-bed semi-detached two-storey units and 1 no. 3-bed detached special needs house.

The planning and construction of the project prioritised sustainability and energy efficiency throughout every stage and all dwellings feature Air Source Heat Pumps, Demand Controlled Ventilation, and achieve an A2 BER rating.

Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr John O’Hara said: “I’m thrilled to see this second phase of the Lios Na Circe development officially opened today.

“Housing is a key priority for Mayo County Council and it is great to see that upwards of 60 people will be getting new homes in this development.”

Mayo County Council worked hand in hand with several project partners on this development including the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, RPS Group Consulting Engineers (Civil and Structural Engineers), Semple McKillop (Mechanical and Electrical Engineers), Tom McNamara and Partners (Quantity Surveyors) and Glenman Corporation Ltd (Main Contractors).

“Today sees us take another step in meeting our aspirations to meet the needs of the people of Mayo and follows on from the opening of other major developments such as the 50-unit development in Rehins Fort in Ballina recently opened”

Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD speaking at the launch said: “Today we are seeing the official opening of 22 new, high-quality homes for families and people in the Castlebar area.

“It is without doubt a very welcome addition to the social housing stock in Mayo County Council. This local authority development was funded by the government under the ‘Housing for All’ plan to the tune of €7.25 million.”
