Cubbie to Represent Mayo at National Enterprise Awards

A technology business from Swinford will represent Local Enterprise Office Mayo at this year’s National Enterprise Award for 2022.

Cubbie took the county top prize of €2,500 and will now represent Local Enterprise Office Mayo at the 22nd National Enterprise Awards at the Mansion House in Dublin on the 2nd June.

The business manufactures the Cubbie Sensory Management System- www.cubbie.ie - a safe, comfortable and adaptable environment for people with a disability or special needs. Combining hardware and software technologies, the Cubbie is tailored to manage the needs of each individual user.

Cubbie will now be competing against 30 other finalists from every local authority area for a share of the €35,000 winners prize fund as national judging gets underway in May.  Categories this year include ‘Best Export Business,’ ‘Best Start-Up’ and ‘Innovation,’ in addition to eight regional awards.  There are also two new National Enterprise Awards this year with a “One to Watch” award and a “Sustainability / Green” award.

Previous Mayo winners of the National Enterprise Awards have included AgriSpread (in 2011), Big Red Barn (in 2016) and Monaghan Bros Bar Furniture (in 2017).

The Mayo Enterprise Award Announcement took place as part of a very successful Local Enterprise Week programme of events.  There were over 220 physical and virtual events taking place across the country, run by the 31 Local Enterprise Offices from March 7th to 11th.

Speaking ahead of the awards John Magee, Head of Enterprise with Local Enterprise Office Mayo said: “We wish Cubbie the very best of luck at the awards this Thursday.  We also wish them every success as they continue to grow their world class business from County Mayo.”

Previous winners of the National Enterprise Awards include Irish Yoghurts (1998), Obelisk (2000), Simtech Aviation (2008), Digiweb (2004) and Design Pro (2013), Terra NutriTech (2018) and Pestle & Mortar (2019).  The last winners in 2021 were Bevcraft, who were supported by Local Enterprise Office Westmeath.  Europe’s only mobile canning company who have gone from strength to strength since winning the award opening new hubs across the continent.

The National Enterprise Awards are one of a number of initiatives that the Local Enterprise Offices run, to foster entrepreneurship across the country. Others include Local Enterprise Week, the Student Enterprise Programme, National Women’s Enterprise Day and Local Enterprise Showcase. The Local Enterprise Offices in local authorities are funded by the Government of Ireland through Enterprise Ireland.
