Louisburgh Voices - A Medieval Christmas
Louisburgh Voices, directed by Pauline Graham, will perform a Christmas Concert with a difference in Holy Trinity Church, Westport, on Wednesday 11th December at 8pm.
Tickets (€20 / €18) are available now from The Bookshop, Bridge Street, Westport and Gala, Louisburgh.
Guided by a Jester, we invite you to step into the Medieval world with Louisburgh Voices, who will be performing carols and music for the Christmas season from Ireland, France, Spain, England, Germany and Italy, including music by Machaut and one of Hildegard von Bingen’s sublime chants, ‘Ave Generosa’. Vocal students of Pauline Graham at Louisburgh Music School will be singing some medieval Christmas music, including the beautiful French carol, ‘Noël Nouvelet’. Louisburgh Voices will be accompanied by Michael Quinn (organ) and Anthony O’Brien (viol and percussion).
Louisburgh Voices is a mixed-voice adult choir, established by Pauline Graham, which has performed in Louisburgh, Castlebar and Ballintubber Abbey, and featured earlier this year at the Mary Robinson Climate Conference in Ballina. Louisburgh Voices have performed Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas, and took part in the Mayo Choral Festival. Their repertoire includes a wide range of music, from early and Baroque music to Fauré, folk-song arrangements, and contemporary music. Louisburgh Music School was established in 2017 by Pauline Graham and Michael Quinn, to enable young people and adults from the local area to develop their passion for music. Their students have performed in local venues, including Westport’s Town Hall Theatre, featured on local and national radio, and won prizes in national competitions.
