Join in Mayo Operation Transformation Walks this Sun 16th January
RTEs Operation Transformation is once again joining forces locally with Mayo Sports Partnership to encourage people to become more physically active in 2022. A number of walks will take place across the county on Sunday 16th January with Sports Partnership organised walks taking place in Castlebar (Meet at Lough Lannagh Leisure Complex from 10.45am ) and in Ballinrobe ( Meet at the Green from 10.45am ) with a start timetabled for 11am. Participants must register to attend the above events beforehand at www.eventbrite.ie
Other community / club orgainised walks are taking place in other locations such as Breaffy, Balla, Ballyvary, GAA Breaffy and Ballyheane , Ballintubber GAA, Belmullet, Ballina, Ballyhaunis - The Friary, Islandeady GAA, Kilkelly FRC – Kilkelly, Glencorrib-Kilroe Walkway, Kilmeena GAA, Kilmaine - Community Walkway, Killeen,Kilcommon, Newport, Swinford - Athletics Club, Killasser, and Westport GAA - Town Greenway. The walks, either 3 or 5km in length will be led by local leaders who will be on hand guide participants through the walk and also to give advice about follow on programmes etc.
Participants will be asked to refrain from attending if not feeling well/showing symptoms and to note all covid guidelines should be followed.
In all the events there is no cost involved, participants are asked to wear loose clothing and to bring some water. However no dogs are allowed. Further information on Operation Transformation can be viewed at : www.rte.ie/ot/
Details of Mayo Sports Partnerships follow on “Operation Get Active Mayo” will be promoted on our website at www.mayo.ie/sportspartnership and also in local media. Programmes will include Men on the Move, Couch to 5K, Walking with Poles, Swim for a Mile, parkrun, Marathon Kids and much more.
This year in Mayo alongside our Community programme of events, we are running our virtual programme. This is a 6-week motivational walking programme where we encourage you to ‘Buddy up’ with a member of your household or a friend to motivate and encourage each other through those dark January days and into the fresh Spring months.Each week you will receive an email with some hints and tips on walking, techniques, tips and motivational tips along with keeping you up to date on the current Operational Transformation tools and resources.
