Achill Residents Asked To Conserve Water While Night Time Restrictions Are In Place Thursday And Friday To Facilitate Works
Date: 15-10-2020
Irish Water and Mayo County Council wish to advise customers in parts of Achill Island that overnight water restrictions will be in place tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow night (Friday) due to operational improvement works at the water treatment plant.
The restrictions will be in place both nights from 9pm until 8am in the following areas: Dooagh, Pollagh, Keel, Closhreid, Ashleam, Dooega, Currane and Cashel.
These restrictions are necessary to ensure a continuous daily water supply is available for residents and businesses while the works are underway. Some customers in these areas may not be affected at all due to the level of water currently in the system, but others will and we thank them in advance for their cooperation.
Irish Water is asking customers in these areas and across the island to be mindful of how they use water and to conserve water where possible. However it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand washing.
While handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering car rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use. We are also reminding people with responsibility for properties that are currently unoccupied to check for leaks and turn off water where it is not required. There are lots more tips on how to conserve water in your home on our website at https://www.water.ie/conservation/
Irish Water continues to work at this time with our local authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of drinking water and wastewater services.
Irish Water and Mayo County Council would like to thank customers on Achill Island for their cooperation as work continues to ensure continuity of water supply for all.
