Applications invited from Mayo businesses for the New Small Business Assistance Scheme for COVID - (SBASC)
Date: 01-04-2021
Mayo County Council is inviting applications for the new Small Business Assistance Scheme for COVID (SBASC). An overview of eligibility criteria, together with an FAQ and link to the application form can be found at www.mayo.ie/SBASC.
The new scheme provides support to some businesses that have been ineligible to avail of the Covid Restrictions Support Scheme (CRSS). Since the introduction of CRSS late last year, several issues have arisen over businesses deemed ineligible.
The main reasons for businesses to be deemed ineligible relates to the requirement that public access to the business premises must be restricted or severely impacted and that the majority of the activity of the business takes place within its premises. Examples of businesses that are excluded from CRSS include florists, charity shops, photographers, events companies, coach tour operators, chauffeurs, taxi drivers, wholesalers, inbound tour operators and certain outdoor attractions.
This new Scheme is designed to provide support to these sectors, provided they meet the eligibility criteria around turnover reductions, etc, and that they are ineligible for either:
- The Covid Restrictions Support Scheme (CRSS);
- The Fáilte Ireland Tourism Business Continuity Scheme;
- The Live Performance Support Scheme or the Music Entertainment Assistance Scheme of the Dept of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media (also launched this week).
If an application is deemed ineligible, the applicant has the right to appeal to Mayo County Council, whose decision will be final.
Further information is available at www.mayo.ie/SBASC.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 21st April, 2021.
