Commencement Of Works On Four New Apartments In Castlebar Marked By Mayo County Council

Mayo County Council this week formally marked the commencement of a new housing project in Castlebar on Lower Charles Street, led by the Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District Cllr Donna Sheridan

Once completed the development will see the construction of four new one-bedroom apartments in Lower Charles Street in the town.

The works will see the removal of two derelict properties on the street and will reinstate the existing terrace on Lower Charles Street, whilst integrating into a protected structure and will be completed in July 2025.

Chief Executive of Mayo County Council, Kevin Kelly welcomed the commencement saying:  

“Along with providing four new high-quality homes in the heart of the town of Castlebar, this project will also address the issue of dereliction and bring new life to the town centre.

“This is something that Mayo County Council are keen to address and will keep working on in towns and villages across the county.”

The project has been developed inhouse by Mayo County Council Architects Section.  The contractors on the project are Finna Construction, Cross, Cong, Co Mayo, the structural and civil engineers are MFA Consulting Engineers, Ballina, Co Mayo with mechanical and electrical engineering services being provided by Patrick MaCaul, Omagh, Co Mayo and the surveyors for the project are KCK, Tralee, Co Kerry.

The Cathaoirleach of the MD was joined by her Councillor colleagues on Castlebar Municipal District, councillors Ger Deere, Blackie Gavin, Michael Kilcoyne and Harry Barrett in addition to Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD, Kevin Kelly (Chief Executive of Mayo County Council), councillors Tom Gilligan (Director of Services, Mayo County Council), and Mayo County Council senior staff.
