REMNANT, a day of performance art in Ballina. Performances from three of the most exciting artists working in Ireland, Amanda Coogan, Dominic Thorpe and Aideen Barry. In addition to this was a talk from guest speaker Nigel Rolf and a discussion and Q&A session facilitated by Cliodhna Shaffrey. Brochure available here
This initiative was devised by Public Art Co-ordinator Gaynor Seville in collaboration with Sean Walsh, Director of Ballina Arts Centre in order to address the lack of opportunity in the area to experience performance art, and to pilot the project.
In discussion with the artists there was also a desire to explore the issues around actual experience of performances and experience of documentation of performance. The guest speaker Nigel Rolf and Cliodhna Shaffrey in her facilitation of the discussion, explored this further.
The gallery space had an exhibition of the artist’s documentation from previous performances and documentation of the REMNANT performances.
