Audit of Oral Heritage Collections for County Mayo

Do you have, or know of, a recording or collection relating to life in the past in Mayo? If so, we want to hear from you!

Mayo County Council Heritage Office has commenced an exciting new Audit of Oral Heritage Recordings for County Mayo. The project aims to identify recorded collections of oral heritage and folklore that have been undertaken over the decades, by both private and public bodies, as well as by individuals. This can range from professional work undertaken by the Irish Folklore Commission, to a community collection of folk traditions and customs, or a family recording, undertaken to document the memories of a grandmother.

The first phase of the audit focuses on spoken word recollections, as distinct from recordings of music, singing etc. Please note we are not seeking to physically take collections, but rather the project aims to compile a detailed list of what has been recorded, along with information about the collections, such as their current location, condition, format, content etc.
