Project Description
The proposed project will consider the upgrade of the existing N17 from Knock in County Mayo to Collooney in County Sligo.
Identified as one of the ten strategic outcomes of Project Ireland 2040, the development of this scheme has the potential to act as a key enabler for the regional growth objectives of the National Planning Framework (NPF). Some of the key objectives include improving regional accessibility, transport journey times and safety along the route.
Current Project Phase
Sligo Regional Design Office (RDO) released the Emerging Preferred Transport Corridor for the N17 Knock to Collooney [Atlantic Economic Corridor] Project on the 31st of January 2023. Now that the Preferred Transport Corridor has been established, the project can move to Phase 3 (Design and Environmental Evaluation) subject to approval of funding.
The detailed design of the road, active travel and public transport infrastructure, the location of junctions and tie-ins, and the design of the side roads will be determined during this Phase.
Mayo and Sligo County Councils would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their cooperation and patience on this project to date. We look forward to working together to deliver this crucial piece of infrastructure for the northwest region.
